Chakras (sometimes spelled "Disk" or "Wheel") are Ayurvedic terms for the energy centers in our bodies. They are present where specific nerve bundles and organs run along the spine, starting at the base and going all the way to the top of our heads. Because each Chakra corresponds with a particular gland, different energies can be distributed throughout the body.
Types of Chakras
- The Root Chakra or Muladhara
- The Sacral Chakra or Svadhishthana
- The Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura
- The Heart Chakra or Anahata
- The Throat Chakra or Vishuddha
- The Third Eye Chakra or Ajna
- The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara
- The Root Chakra or Muladhara
At the base of the spine, it is the primary Chakra. When in harmony, it fosters courage, vigour, and independence. Yet, when out of balance, it causes instability, worry, and anxiety.
How to activate
Stretching should be done first, and after that, sit comfortably with your eyes closed in any quiet place. Breath slowly and deeply while focusing on the Root Chakra. it is located between the genitals and the anus. Touch the tip of your index finger with the tip of your thumb.
2. The Sacral Chakra or Svadhishthana
This is the second chakra, which controls the kidneys, bladder, and reproductive functions, is situated in the inner pelvis and lower belly. It is responsible for rare sexual impulses, irritation, and emotional numbness when it is balanced. It promotes positivity and contentment, when it is out of balance.
How to activate
Sit on your knees and keep your back straight and your hands in your lap with the palms facing up to open the sacral chakra. Begin your breathing slowly while focusing on the sacral chakra, which is in your lower abdomen a few inches below the navel. Focus on this chakra and chant “VAM”.
3. The Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura
Four fingerbreadths above the navel area where it is situated. It stands for strength and self-assurance. When one is out of balance, they may experience issues with their liver, liver function, and emotional health (depression, anger, etc.).
How to activate
Put your hands on your stomach just below your Manipura while seated on your knees with your back straight. Together, extend the tips of both hands in a forward motion. Your hands should be straight with your thumbs crossed. While you carefully inhale while concentrating on your Manipura, begin chanting "RAM."
4. The Heart Chakra or Anahata
It is situated in the heart, which is in the middle of our chest. It represents the most objective, sincere, and caring love, devotion, and care for both ourselves and others. One may experience emotional imbalance when out of balance, including irritability, grief, worry, jealousy, and moodiness.
How to activate
Sit on the chair with your legs crossed and close your eyes. Now touch the tips of your index and thumb with both hands. Take a deep breath and focus on the heart chakra, which is situated in the same position as the heart. Repeatedly chant "YAM" while maintaining the same state of relaxation, joy, and love.
5. The Throat Chakra or Vishuddha
It is situated in the middle of the larynx, at the base of the throat. It matters for communication, inspiration, expression, and faith. When one is out of balance, one may feel quiet, frail, shy, and unable to articulate their views.
How to activate
Focus on the Throat Chakra, which is situated at the base of your throat, while sitting on your knees with your back straight and your eyes closed. Breathe gently and deeply while continually saying "HAM."
6. The Third Eye Chakra or Ajna
It is regarded as the key location of focus, consciousness, and intuition and is situated in the middle of the head, between the eyebrows. When out of balance, it encourages egotism, success anxiety, and indecision.
How to activate
Close your eyes and sit cross-legged with your back straight. Focusing on Ajna, inhale deeply and gently, and chant "OM" continually.
7. The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara
At the very top of our heads is where it is. It is the centre of enlightenment and spirituality. When out of equilibrium, it encourages dullness, sluggishness, and negative emotions.
How to activate
Sit cross-legged or on a chair with your back straight and your eyes closed to open the head chakra. Focus on the Crown Chakra, which is situated on top of the head, while taking slow, deep breaths and chanting the holy word "OM."
